PEB Employee Survey

Post Employment Benefits Taskforce

                Employee Survey, 2010

As part of the effort of the Presidential Task Forces on Post-Employment Benefits, employees were surveyed concerning attitudes toward benefits and other aspects of UC employment.  The survey instrument was based on a 2009 Towers Watson national survey.  Over 17,000 faculty and policy-covered staff were sent written surveys, and there was a 23% response rate.  In addition, other employees had the opportunity to respond to a short online survey, drawing 9,000 responses from faculty and policy-covered staff and responses from 3,000 retirees.  The latter answers questions focused on the health coverage.

A full report will be available on-line, but some highlights discussed in the April, 2010 public forums include these:

    •    Post-employment benefits are among the top reasons that faculty and staff come to and stay at UC

    •    80% expressed high satisfaction with UC retirement benefits

    •    73% said they plan to retire with 20+ years of service

    •    Many placed higher value on retirement benefits (69%) vs. cash compensation (13%)
